⚡ TL;DR – Kill the iPhone 17 Camera Button
Settings → Camera → Camera Control → OFF
That’s it. The stupid camera button is disabled. No more accidental launches.
Apple Added a Camera Button… and Nobody Asked for It
If you own an iPhone 17, you already know exactly what this post is about. That new camera button on the side of the phone is one of the most annoying design decisions Apple has made in years.
You grab your phone — the camera opens.
You pull it out of your pocket — the camera opens.
You adjust your grip — the camera opens.
It’s unnecessary. It’s intrusive. And thankfully… you can turn it off.
Quick Video: How to Disable the iPhone 17 Camera Button
If you’d rather see it done instead of reading steps, this short video walks through the process in under a minute:
How to Completely Turn Off the iPhone 17 Camera Button
If you want the clean kill and never want to deal with this button again, do the following:
- 📱 Open Settings
- 📸 Tap Camera
- 🔘 Tap Camera Control
- ❌ Toggle Camera Control to OFF
That’s it. The button is disabled. No accidental launches. No surprise AI scans.
Don’t Want to Fully Disable It? Use the Least-Annoying Setup
If you insist on keeping the button enabled but want fewer accidental triggers:
- ⚙️ Go to Settings → Camera → Camera Control
- 🖱️ Change Press Type to Double-Press
- 🔒 Disable Launch Camera from Lock Screen (if available)
This dramatically reduces accidental presses — but it still isn’t perfect.
Stop Visual Intelligence From Triggering
Another frustration is the camera button firing up Visual Intelligence when nobody asked for it. You can shut that down too:
- 🧠 Open Settings
- 🤖 Tap Apple Intelligence
- 👁️ Toggle Visual Intelligence to OFF
Your Case Might Be Making It Worse
Many iPhone 17 cases press against the camera button just enough to trigger it constantly. If you’re keeping the button enabled:
- 🧳 Use a case labeled Camera Control compatible
- ✂️ Or use a case with a cutout instead of a molded button
Otherwise, the camera will keep launching itself like it’s possessed.
The Bottom Line
Apple tried to fix a problem that didn’t exist. Most people already know how to open the camera — and didn’t need a new button doing it accidentally.
If the camera button is driving you crazy, don’t fight it. Turn it off and move on.
And yeah — you’re not crazy. This thing has been bugging the hell out of a lot of people. Including ME!
